A few years after I arrived at St. Catherine Church, I received a call from our Diocesan office of the Deaconate and from Mr. Steve Kassebaum, (who was at that time in training for diaconate) offering his services to our parish. After completing his training, he was ordained and appointed to serve as a deacon at our parish, by Bishop Paul Bootkoski. Deacon Steve has been serving at our parish since June 6, 2015.
As Deacon Steve moves out of the parish with his family to retire in Florida, he has asked to be relieved from his official position as deacon here at St. Catherine Parish. You have primarily seen Deacon Steve assisting at Sunday Masses, including preaching, celebrating baptisms for many of our children, witnessing many weddings and assisting at some of the funerals. In addition to this, he has overseen our parish RCIA program, Marriage Preparation program, been in charge of preparing parents for the baptism of their children, and training altar servers.
I’m very appreciative of the ministry that Deacon Steve has carried out here at St. Catherine. I am sure that the prayers of all of us are with him as he continues on his new journey. Our Parish will greatly miss his smile, generosity, and dedication!
God Bless you, Deacon Steve. And may you have many wonderful years enjoying your retirement.
I do not know if another deacon will be assigned to St. Catherine Parish or not. If so, I will let you know.
