Thanks for Food for the Needy donations

Thanks!

The Food for the Needy Committee of St. Philip & St. James Parish sent its thanks to St. Catherine’s parishioners for their generous donation to this year’s food drive. Because of your generosity, 400 baskets were made—enough to feed 1,115 people this year. “It was so kind of you to consider helping us again this year,” the message said.

The working poor in Phillipsburg has been growing so steadily and the food pantry at Catholic Charities has been trying to keep up with the demand. (Read more…)

Return to Mass

Many of us have friends, relatives, siblings, co-workers, or neighbors who are Catholic but who do not come to Mass on a regular basis. They may fall away from the active practice of the faith for a time but some eventually come back and begin participating in the life of the Church. As disciples, we are challenged to assist those who are considering a return to the Church. They need our guidance; they need our support; they need our encouragement; they need our prayers. A Tradition for Your Eve of Christmas

We now have available the “Oplatki” or “Christmas Wafers” for your use. This is millennia old tradition that began in Poland, Slovakia and Lithuania.

At the Christmas Eve Meal one of the wafers or, a part of one, are placed on each person’s plate. Before the meal a prayer is said and then beginning with the father and mother of the house, a Sign of Peace is exchanged in the same manner and the wish of a Happy Christmas. (Read more…)

Altar Server Training class offered for interested boys and girls

Altar Server Training

Deacon Steve will hold an Altar Server Training class on Thursday, December 6th, from 6 to 7 pm at the Parish Center. We are looking for boys and girls in third grade or higher to serve this very important role.

The Altar Server’s role is a unique one in the Catholic Church. Other than priests and deacons, no one else is allowed to so closely play a part in the preparation of the Eucharist. Your participation as an Altar Server is special. (Read more…)
