Catholics throughout the world are invited to recommit themselves to the Church’s missionary activity through prayer and sacrifice by observing World Mission Sunday on October 24th. Instituted for the whole Church by Pope Pius XI in 1926, it is traditionally celebrated on the next-to-last Sunday each October.

Today, let us join our brothers and sisters around the world who gather at the Lord’s Table to celebrate, with great joy, our common vocation as missionaries. Our prayers and concrete gestures of solidarity will help build local churches across the globe. (Read more…)

Traditionally, October is the month when praying the rosary is emphasized. The Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious, and Luminous mysteries of the rosary shed light upon the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus and the key role of Mary, His mother, in the story of salvation history.

The rosary is traditionally credited to St. Dominic (1170-1221 AD). According to legend, the Blessed Mother appeared to Dominic in a vision, handed him the rosary and asked him to spread the devotion. (Read more…)

Dear Parishioners,

Last week I received a phone call, followed by a letter, notifying me that Bishop James Checchio has assigned Deacon Michael Meyer to our parish as a permanent deacon.  This is the reason for joy, and we graciously welcome him to our parish family. Deacon Michael was ordained on June 12, 2010.  He has been married to his wife Jessica for 21 years.  For the past 19 years the couple and their two children were parishioners of Immaculate Conception in Annandale. On Sunday, September 26th, we held our Annual Parish Picnic.  It succeeded again in its primary goal of socializing with our faith community and was made possible by Debbie and Rich Fass, with the help of Dawn and Mark Salerno and Doreen Opeikun.

Friday, October 1st

This Friday, October 1st and every first Friday of the month, our St. Catherine of Siena Parish, with unrestrained joy, celebrates the Real Presence of Jesus Christ during the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.  We begin at 3pm and end with Benediction at 7pm.

A great part of our parish’s vitality is the adoration of our Eucharistic Lord. How many graces have come from that Adoration! Of course what makes it possible are the people who commit to spending one hour a month with our Lord. (Read more…)
